Stretching to Reduce Stress on Your Spine

Even with the best intentions, you may notice your posture slipping as you crane away from your chair and closer to your computer screen. This can cause lower back pain and additional issues over time. However, knowing when to take a break and stretch will allow you to keep your muscles loose and reduce stress on your spine. If you are able to, make a point to get up from your desk and walk around for a few minutes every hour. Not only does this keep the blood circulating to your legs but it will also make sure that you properly reset your posture when you resume working at your desk. If you have a job that requires heavy lifting or standing for long periods of time the same rules can also apply. Stretch before any strenuous activity so that you do not tweak a muscle or put unnecessary stress on your back.
